Job Opportunities For New US Citizens and Immigrants

Foreign settlers who have just recently obtained their US citizenship would be happy to know that the US labor market has a lot in store for them. Although the US economy has been unstable due to continuing effects of the recession, job outlook for new US citizens and immigrants alike still looks promising as different work sectors open their doors to legal immigrants and naturalized individuals. In fact, employment rate in the US (for immigrants and new US citizens) is expected to get a 10% increase until 2018.

Different occupations are made available to immigrants who can qualify for the vacant positions. There are some jobs that grow more rapidly than the others and thus giving them more job vacancies to fill in, which is good news for US immigrants who wish to work in the country. Some of the job sectors that will likely open lucrative job opportunities for immigrants and new US citizens include the following:

Teaching and Education

A growing number of public and private schools in the US is currently in shortage of teachers. And because of this, immigrants who have degrees in teaching will have the chance to practice their profession by working as a teacher assistant, post secondary teacher or elementary school teacher in the US. Medical and Healthcare

This is a field that often hires immigrants to fill in vacant positions in hospitals and other medical facilities. The need for more home health aides, orderlies, CNAs, RNs, LPNs/LVNs, child care workers and physicians is continuously growing and expected to rise in the years to come. In fact, health care related job positions are considered as recession-proof. The medical field is not affected in anyway by the instability of financial market. Truth be told, more immigrants have the opportunity to have a rewarding career and earn a lucrative salary due to increasing number of baby boomers and the growing need for medical services throughout the country.

Food and Hotel Industry

New US citizens and legal immigrants can also find great job offers in restaurants and hotels. Most hotel and restaurant owners prefer to hire immigrants since they are usually paid lower compared to natural born US citizens. Those who are interested to work in the food and hotel industry can find work as a waiter, receptionist, chamber maid, chefs, and kitchen attendants.

Accounting, IT, labor and construction are other sectors that will likely open their doors to hire immigrants and new US citizens. Some states that offer more employment opportunities than the others. New Jersey, New York, California, Delaware, Connecticut, Washington, Philadelphia and Baltimore are some of the top places where immigrants can find more work opportunities.
